Hello,
A friend game me some lathe parts from an old patternshop and I'm trying to figure out what lathe they might of came from. There are 8", 12" and 18" faceplates with what looks like 2" x 8tpi. The clear opening inside the bore (tip of the threads) is just over 1 3/4". Also came with two double sided index plates with anywhere from 24 to 64 holes circular patterns. The ID of these plates is 2 1/4". I'm not sure if they came from the same machine, but I also got a 30", very heavy duty, dual post tool rest with a minimum height of 11". Most items look like they have some original green paint.

Anyone have an idea what this could of been mounted on? Maybe it was a specific machine for pattern makers?

Thanks,
Jack

The green paint makes me think "Oliver" but that is just a guess.

Got a photo of one of the faceplates (12") and the index plates. Is that close to proper Oliver color?

Dennis,
I saw in another of your post that you say your Oliver 20 has 1 7/8" x 6tpi threads. These faceplates are 1 7/8" x 8tpi. I can't find any information on-line, so if you are sure that it's 6tpi, my faceplates must not be Oliver.

I did just get a confirmation from another Oliver 20 owner that said his threads are 1 7/8 x 6tpi.

I also have an Oliver 20, and the spindle threads are definitely 1 7/8" x 6 tpi.

I also have an original banjo, and I am pretty sure that the ones you have pictured are not Oliver. The Oliver banjo has a cam type clamp to fix the toolrest at a set height.

Here is a pic of my Oliver 20, the banjo is visible in the picture. The clamp to fix the toolrest at a set height is much different than the ones that you picked up. I know for a fact that the older Dominion Patternmakers lathes had that style of banjo, but I can't say for sure that they are Dominion.

I'll measure mine Jack. When I got my Oliver it also came with two faceplates that fit it and one that is 2.25"!!! I have no idea what that is for except a row boat anchor.
