See Leaf ID #1 for the story. These came from three different trees, but I guessed they are the same species. Flower, fruit and nothing? Male & female? Same questions - what is it and is it good for turning? I guessed mulberry, partly because we used to have some big old mulberries on the farm, but I really don't know.

Mulberry looks like a good bet. Too bad my mother, who was a specialist in tree identification, is no longer around.

I think mulberry is a good guess. I have one in the front yard that I need to cut down. Apparently the wood is slightly harder than hard maple but prone to splitting. I tried to dry some and it was fine in the bark but after about 5 months I took the bark off and it split in 3 pieces. I'll try again but next time will resaw.

Mulberry is supposed to be "very, hard, heavy and durable".

Mulberry will be bright yellow when you cut it, but turns to a medium brown with exposure. It has a prominent grain pattern and I would call it open grained. It turns easily when fresh, but is pretty hard when dry. I haven't had too much warping during drying, but have had some splits. I don't really care for the look of it, but that is, of course, in the eye of the beholder.
