See Leaf ID #1 for the story. This appears to be some kind of willow. I have the Hough wood book and he did not indicate any turning use for any willow. One of the downed trees has a red heartwood and a thin white sapwood. It made me think these may be red willows, which Hough says are good for fence posts because they resist rot, even with ground contact.

Again, if you know it or have ever turned it, I'd like to know. I'm not sure this bark goes with this leaf, but I think it's right.
