Got a letter in the mail yesterday from a guy in St Louis that represents a "substantial St. Louis area business" that is interested in acquiring my business. He included his address, phone and e-mail in the letter, so I e-mailed him asking for more info, but he hasn't replied. I'm wondering if Mike Null is looking to expand into NY........

Steve

I would be suspicious of anybody from St. Louis but if you're interested in expanding to the midwest give me a call.

I'm not in the engraving business, but I get letters like that all the time. Most of these are "brokers" looking to "connect people that want to buy a business, with people that want to sell a business." Only one or two steps removed from a scam, really, as they give the impression they or someone they represent is ready to buy.

How does the old saying go?..anything that is too good to be true, probably is.

they look for buyers and sellers.. or try to talk business owners into
becoming one or the other. If you agree to sell, they have to go find
a buyer. If you agree to buy, they have to go out and find you a business.
Either way, you pay up front.

They're proactive! Filling a need that doesn't exist yet
