Trying to figure out how to make this.

I am trying to figure out how to make a real similar to the larger one in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iGN1e_Puo0 but do not have access to a lathe at the moment. I had thought of cutting it out on the band saw but don't know how I would hollow out the middle or get the V shape on the outside diameter.

Drills and rasps, files, and sandpaper.
Layout, drill however many holes around the inner perimeter, chisel away the excess, rasp, file and sandpaper to shape. Outer perimeter can be roughed on a saw or cut close on a bandsaw, then rasp, file, and sandpaper.

I wonder if you could find something like a wood bowl as s starting point? Attach to a drill press to shape the exterior a bit as needed, then use a bandsaw to hack off the bowl bottom?
