While I'm not a prolific poster here I thought I'd share a few things I've gotten finished recently. I really enjoy the information and ideas I garner from this forum so thanks to everyone for that.
My first try and dyeing the rim of a plate, I liked the way it turned out.

A pair of curly maple canisters with walnut lids

curly maple plate, this has great figure. Although you can't see it I almost blew it by getting too thin finishing out the recess in back.

Nice job on all of those. How do you get a nice crisp line at the edge of the dyed rim? Do you mask or dye before cutting out the inside of the bowl?

I was wondering the same thing about how you kept the dye from leaching into the undyed wood in the center. Please enlighten me. Thanks Jared

Really nice Jeremy, my favorite is your curly maple platter and then your curly maple canisters.

Very cool. I like them all, but am partial to the cannisters-striking contrast of woods.

Jeremy, those are all beautiful pieces. I couldn't pick a favorite if I tried. And the photography is top notch too. Thanks for posting them and looking forward to seeing more.

For the dyed rim I sealed the inner portion and the back with shellac prior to dye application. There are others much more well versed in the art of dyeing but that worked for me on this particular piece. I dyed the outside of a maple bowl not pictured here and that had a little dye that pulled into the bottom of the bowl on the outside, presumable from capillary action. My initial thoughts on how to prevent that would be to score a line round the bottom or add a foot. Like I said, I'm still in the experimental stage with this dyeing stuff. Hopefully someone else can chime in. On another note, the canisters are very popular despite not being as "artsy" as some of the other stuff. Thanks for the positive comments.
