I haven't had much shop time lately, I have a new batch of little black devils that have been keeping me busy. But they're ready for new homes so things should get back to normal soon.

I did manage to sneak in a couple hours this week to finish up this little box made from silk oak. I roughed it out a few weeks ago and it seemed dry enough to finish it up.
After finish turning, I branded it with my burner and then gave it a coat of black gesso. I left the top, bottom and a narrow band at each end natural, but also coated the inside with black gesso.
It's about 5" x 2 1/2" with a top coat of antique oil.

Kathy, very nice piece, good form and finish. Does the gesso get really hard so it doesn't wear off, especially on the inside? Tim.

Kathy, I love the way you brand a pattern into your wood, it makes it look so distinguished and different from run of the mill turnings.

Wonderful work on the box, and I also want to know what kind of pups you have there.

Kathy, your boxes just keep getting better and better. Love the form and the finish. I've seen black gesso used before, but you made me go buy some.

Thanks everyone!

The pups are Schipperkes, curious and independent (aka nosey and stubborn) and full of energy, they are a big dog in a small package.

Tim, the gesso is basically a primer paint, so I guess it would wear as well as paint does. It dries hard, but I'd guess if handled frequently it would eventually show some wear.

Hey Kathy, You're getting artsy, you little devil. So you're raising other little devils, too. They are too cute.
