This was in the middle of a 30" oak tree:

It appears the tree grew around it. The wood was black a foot up and down from it about 2 inches around and smelled something awful. No rust.

Is this wedge too for down? It sticks out over chipbreaker.Chips get caught there. I would think they would just get caught further up if i cut it?

The 3 pics of your object look like a rifled shotgun slug to me. No idea what the other pic is supposed to be-sorry.

Rifled slug,I agree. I have sawn through buried buckshot in wood before. A guy was ruined for life in England while working in a sawmill. The trees had been near an old Army proving ground. He sawed into an artillery shell long buried in the tree. It went off while being sawn, ruining the family jewels.

Agree with others on the bullet.

Have no idea what the wedge & chip breaker question is asking.

The fingers of the wedge should not extend past the "hump" of the chip breaker. Cut them back so that they are in full contact with the top of the chip breaker and do not go past the hump. To be on the safe side, take this in steps.
