I get relatively little shop time, so projects tend to drag on bit longer than I'd wish... something that happens to a lot of us here.:D

This saw bench, a Christopher Schwarz version, has taken me too long to admit. Its made with half-lap dovetail stretchers, and the wood used (50 year old Doug Fir + Spruce?) came from my Dad's old utility workbench from the 1960's. The wood for this saw bench came from the saw-horses that held up the plank top. It's a bit rough, but the wood is so splintery and hard and dry that it was very difficult to work with... I'll take cherry any day of the week over this stuff! It was left over 2x material from the house I grew up in, built in '59.

The two 12" back saws (a Tyzack and a Pax) were sharpened by Matt Cianci, and they give an excellent cut finish - just had to get a tool shot in there!

The sharpening stone holder is the Lie-Nielsen design I just made tonight.

My projects all drag on. It looks like yours was worth the wait. That's a great-looking saw bench and stone holder. Oh, and the saws - A beautiful collection.

No Kidding!!!!

Nice work. A good saw bench is very helpful to have.

I like your water stone holder - looks very convenient with the hook and the build in angle guides. How you liking those Ohishi stones?

Sweet tool chest too!

You could at least borrow some sawdust for the next shoot.
Your shop looks like a surgical suite, next to mine (which looks like the day after a trainwreck).

Do I spy the Norm Abrams style router table in the background?
I repurposed mine as a sharpening station.

It's easier to see what I'm doing, and there's no need to bend over.
It's also the right height to clamp on the Moxxon vise you'll be building next.

The quality or your work, and your attention to detail are horrifying to a schlub like me.

Could you post a close shot of the Chest lid with the saws

Thanks guys, now Its time to hide it!
For well over a year now, my wife has been waiting for me to renovate the mud/laundry room, and it pains her to look at this saw bench build in progressive stages while the mud room remains unchanged from when we moved in.

Like Tony Soprano, her patience may reach a point where it runs out.
What do you think, should I delay the mud room once again and start on my moxon vise?

I keep hearing about the L-N sharpening setup, but I've been unable to find any mention of it on Lie-Nielsen's site. Do you have a link?

Only if you can convince her that it is needed to do the mud room.

Make it a point to get your saw bench into the project. You could use the moxon atop your saw bench. Maybe use it to support a tile saw if you do any tiling.

Absolutely. My wife supports my tool purchases because I always use them to make something for her.

Chris, let me just say the are my first water stones and WOW are they easy and fast! Can't compare them to other waterstones, but so far so good.
