Stop collar question

Will a 3/16 split-ring depth stop collar fit on a 5 mm bit? I ask this because I'm here at home with the collars and my only 5mm bit is at work.

I just went out in the shop and checked. Didn't measure it, actually tried to stick a 5mm in a 3/16 stop collar. You might get it in there by spreading the split ring with a flat bladed screwdriver, but I doubt you'll get it back off without busting it. If it's the standard cheap pot metal stop collars you might just break it getting in in there to begin with. More flexible metal would probably be ok.

Don't try it. I just broke my 3/16" stop collar this morning trying to get it to fit on a 5mm drill bit. Close but no cigar.
