Here is my first hollow form that I started about a year ago. It split, so I stopped. Recently I decided to work on it again, so I filled the crack with CA and finished it. I don't know what the wood it, but it is fished with WTF.

On a side note, I was excited to have Michael Hosaluk, who attended our club meeting yesterday, critique my first vessel. I know the shape needs to taper more at the bottom, but he also told me not to flatten the top also. He seamed impressed that this was my first hollow form. It took me a long time to do this, but I'm satisfied for a first attempt.

Any critiques are welcome

Frank, for your 1st hollow form, I think you did one heck of a good job. The minor design mistakes you made can be easily corrected next time, good job.

Way to hang in there and git er done. What is the size and what tool(s) did you use to reach in there?

Your execution was excellent, with the design advice you received, you will be making great HFs soon.

Thank you everyone. Sorry I forgot to put the size, it is 5 1/2" tall. I used a Sorby hollow master. My next one will be using an articulating hollower I made. I will post that soon.

If anyone has an idea what the wood is, I would appreciate it.

Great HF and your first? Wow! The homemade sound interesting. The wood species is Spaltus Magni.

Nice first form. As most folks would say, just date and number this as #1 and watch how things progress if you enjoy making them. Excellent that you got Mike to give you some good critique. If I were to guess this wood, I'd say elm looking at the last pic. Grain sure looks about right. Nice spalting regardless!
