Here are a couple more simple segmented pens using the swirl or feather technique. Both are made from black acrylic with aluminum inlays. The blank on the left has the swirls cut at a 60 degree angle while the blank on the right has them cut at a 45 degree angle with a couple aluminum rings at the ends. Both are Sierra Vista kits. Thanks for looking and any questions or comments are always welcomed.

Very sharp looking pens! Can you PM me a link, or something, where I can learn that technique?

Hello Jim and Phil. Thanks for the kind words. This design idea has been around for quite awhile and I have seen others on this site do them. They are very simple to do but some sort of jig is needed to hold the blank steady and for repeatability. I thought i had shown this when I posted this pen.

But anyway here is the blank after all the cuts were made and here is the jig I use to hold the blank. I use my tablesaw to make these cuts. The cuts are made just a tad less than half way through the blank. The same cut is made on all 4 sides just by flipping the blank over 4 times. The infill material matches the kerf of the cut which is just shy in this case of 1/8" (3/32") Any angle can be used. I shown 2 angles, 45 degrees and 60 degrees. The greater the angle the more it streches out the design. To each his own on that call.

These latest pens shown have 1/8" sanded down to 3/32" as inlay. The top pen had black red black pickguard material. I get my aluminum from Home Depot or Lowes. If I am using real thin stuff I use the roll of flashing that is found near the gutter isle. The heavier stuff is stacked in bins in one of the isles, I think the one with the rope and stuff. You can get flat stock in different lengths or angle or square. In the next few weeks I hope to be showing more segmented pens with different designs.

These pens were made with acrylic and aluminum and there is no top coat on them. I did not seal them with CA or anything because I found nothing happens to the aluminum. It does not tarnish or turn colors. Thanks for looking and if you have any further questions just shoot. I will be happy to answer.
