Bobby Hicks took this pic while he was here and I just copied it from a msg he posted under "creeker visit". I don't know how to make the image appear here.

Excellent work Steve. It looks really great. Is the center panel book matched four ways or just two?

Beautiful piece Steve.

What flavor of plywood did you use to glue to? Did you vacuum bag it? or???

That thing is just gorgeous. Seems a shame to block any of that view with covers/pillows, etc.

Thanks all.
Lee it's a 4 piece match and the end panels are crotch walnut. It's all layed up on 3/4 mdf.

All layed up on 3/4" mdf??? Whew! That's NOT going anywhere once set in place! And, if it were in MY house, I'd make sure it didn't go anywhere! That is flat out stunning!:) Very rich looking and the veneering exquisitely done. Very, very nice job, Steve!:)

All I can say is WOW

I can really say WOW. If you think it looks good in a 640X480 image you should see it in person, I did. Steve did a great job on this. The middle field is quad-bookmatched burle and the side panels are crotch. I leave more details to Steve.

As we worked on it (I contributed very little, just extra hands) Sunday it didn't have any finish and you could tell it was gonna be gourgeous. When I went back Sunday He had it all done ready for delivery. When I walked around the corner and saw it my jaw hit the floor.

Again, I had a great visit.

How did you create the arch in the solid wood at the top of the headboard?

wow this came back from the past.:>)
The top rail is a bent lamination. I made a form from particle board and clamped strips that I had resawed from 8/4 stock.

Steve,

Very nice, I'm so impressed I would like to see the Foot Board. I'm sure it matches. Would that be possible for you to post another picture.

Steve, Great bed. I know this seems an odd question, but what veneer did you use on the back side of the panels, and how did it balance? Did the panels stay relatively flat?

Actually this bed doesn't have a foot board. I mounted the headboard to the wall rather than the bed. it eliminates the wobbling you usually get with big headboards. The back side of the panels are veneered with a lower grade of walnut and no problems with warping. They stayed nice and flat.

That sure is beautiful. The veneer work is superb, I'm even more impressed with the design and work on the wood framing the veneer. Very nice.

Steve,
That is superb!

Crotch walnut is one of my favorite woods, and you've used it quite well.
Thanks for sharing,

Wow, Steve. Very nice work. The design of the columns on the end is a great contrast to the large fields.

Nicely done.

Ralph, no side rails on this one. It is a headboard only.

What an absolutely gorgeous piece! Very inspiring. I'd be interested in hearing a little about its construction.
