Die Cutting Machines / Cutting Veneer?

I'm researching those table top die cutting machines that crafters use to cut paper, etc for stencils and such, Cricut is one of the brands you may have heard of. In my research, I see that some of the higher end machines promise great results when cutting veneers for inlay work. I'm having trouble justify the $1000 for the machine just to cut the fabric liners that sent me on this search, but if I can cut inlays in mass, that opens up other possibilities.

Anyway, it may be a long shot, but anybody here ever used a die cutting machine to cut detail veneer inlays?
