When or if any of you have ever turned Slippery elm, did it smell? This week I turned a Pepper Grinder from this wood and the dmell is terrible. I've tried to seal it with shellac and lacquer, but to avail. I can't possible sell this mill smelling like this. So far it's $35.00 wasted.

Don't know anything about slippery elm but chances are the smell will go away in a week or two. Baking soda, rice or something to absorb the smell might speed up the process.

If the wood is dry it will smell less, and less, and less. But I love Elm all of it. Air Dried is not dry.
