I bought this new in 1984 or so and it might be in need of new bearings.

Has anyone done this to this machine?

Dave, Did you end up replacing the bearings yourself or send the cartridge out for bearing replacement?

I ended up buying a second PC 7518 motor for my router table which took the load off the shaper so I haven't replaced the bearings yet. When I do, I've decided to pay someone else to do it. It's still usable, as I only use it when the router won't do.

One of these days...:)

I have that shaper. I've had it for 40 years. I did replace the motor bearings on it. I bought the bearings at an auto parts store.

It was a non-event.

I replaced the bearings in my Delta LD shaper, and had no problems. It was a simple remove and replace for the bearings. There was no pre-load required.
I'd recommend Accurate Bearing for replacement bearings. After you have removed the old bearings and gotten the number from them, call them and ask for Lynne. She will help you find what you need at a decent price.
If you want some one to do it for you, I would suggest A&E Tools-http://artisans.homeunix.com:443/product_info.php?products_id=157.
