Have the standard HF collector. Runnin' in 120v and a 20 amp breaker which also carries the shop lights and ancillary stuff.
The DC will trip the breaker if I don't shut down other stuff.
Since I bought the DC second hand, I don't have any paper on it, so the question is, what is the start-up amp draw.
Can this puppy be wired for 240v, and where could I find the wiring changeover info?
Thanks in adavnce.

You can download the manual from HF and check. I bet this puppy is 120V only.

defino-positively 120V only. I would try and figure out the ~draw on the lights/ancillary stuff, you may just be over the feasible draw with it all told. If it looks plausible its possible your breaker is old/weak and would benefit from being replaced.

Home is 3 yrs old, but sure could be a weak breaker.
I'll check.

I had two brand new identical breakers. One would trip when my cyclone started, the other didn't. If you look at a trip curve, they have a pretty big range of acceptable sensitivities.

And just because it is labeled 120v doesn't always mean if can't run on 240v (though it might mean that). I had a 240v only DC that I converted to 120v. But unless you know what you are doing don't try it; you could just burn out the motor.

I just measured 26A start current on mine. With one 4" port open it draws 13A running..

My HF DC would randomly trip my 20A breaker all the time. theres no rhyme or reason as to why or when.

Mine's on a 15A breaker by itself and never trips. Have had it like this for more than a year and use it at least 3 days a week.

Amp draw depends on what the airflow is. Start it with the gates shut. If run with no pipe on the inlet and no bag on the outlet you are liable to burn up the motor if the breaker doesn't trip. Dave

I don't know about the OP's, but Square Ds will do a 6x the rated current for a minimum of 3 seconds; so if 26a trip it, the breaker is defective. Or the DC is.

I've had my HFDC for 7 yrs and never had a problem on start up. It draws 18 amp on startup and about 11 running. I have it on a 20 amp dedicated circuit. It is/was convertible to 240 volt, there is a diagram inside the cover on how to wire it for 240V. Only problem I've is the switch...burned up a yra go and I just bypassed it and use the breaker as the on/off switch. HTH, John

In the OP's OP he says that the DC is on a "20 amp breaker which also carries the shop lights and ancillary stuff". My shop lights draw 15A and if the 'ancillary stuff" includes a beer 'fridge there's another 8-12A. Not enough left on that breaker for a DC!
