I just finished this maple pet urn for a childhood friend. it is 5 X 9 3/4".
Many coats of satin WOP and buffed.
It has some nice quilting,it came from a tree down the block.

Nice form and figure. How is the lid attached, threads or friction fit> max.

The lid is friction fit and an O ring.

Nice...and the local wood makes it even nicer.

Great looking urn! And the friction fit/O-ring, never thought of that before. Thanks for the idea!

Thats beautiful. It combines two things I like about turning, using some wood with a story and making something memorable. Very nice indeed.

That's really nicely done and the wood has a good history. I do have one question. Why would you want to open the urn after the ashes are in there? Any I've done I've epoxied the lid on once the ashes were put in the urn. Maybe I'm missing something?

Not to be critical, just curious.

Nice work, Jeff! Just as a point of interest from someone that loves figured maple, I have noticed a wide divergence in the terms used to describe the figure. I suspect most would call what you used 'curly maple', or 'tiger' or 'fiddleback'. Normally, 'quilted maple' would have a pattern more like this -

Dave,of all the pet urns I've made I haven't been able to sell them on the idea of epoxy. They want threads or something that will let them in later??? Thanks John for the education. That makes sence.
