I've had my lathe about a month now, After A couple of bowls and boxes I thought I'd try something else. My wife mentioned to me that she thought it was silly that her friend didn't have an ice cream scoop, and that she was going to buy her one for her birthday. Of course I couldn't let that happen. The bad thing is that I put so much time into this, now I don't want to give it away. Maple partially ebonized. Tung Oil finish with Beeswax/carnuba for grip.

Nathan that's a really cool ice cream scoop. Great job not only for your 4th turning, but if this was your 1000th turning.

Thanks for the compliment. To be fair, I did turn a couple of boxes in high school 20 years ago. I'm happy with the way it turned out, but there are a few things I think I could have done better. But my guess is I'll feel that way even after I have done 1,000 projects.

If you don't fell that way you aren't trying.

The thing to do is make another one, it will go quicker. Then keep this one and give the second one to your wife's friend.

Good looking scoops. My granddad told me one time if you are satisfied with any of your work you won't improve.
