I have the following motor on the way, which I will be installing in my Jet 14" bandsaw:

It will replace the OEM 1 HP 110/220 motor. The OEM motor plate says the amperage is 10 @ 110v. The new motor's full load amps are 8.3. So is it fair to assume that since the switch could handle at least 10 amps from the OEM motor at 110v, that it can handle 8.3 amps at 230v?

I thought about switching (no pun intended) to a magnetic switch, but got sticker shock!

Thanks!

Peter

The new switch would need to be a double pole switch. The one you have would be a single pole switch.

Forgive my ignorance, but since the switch on the bandsaw was able to handle both 110v and 220v wiring, doesn't that mean the switch is already double pole? The OEM switch is kind of like this one, although I can't tell what kind of amperage it's rated for.

Peter,
You are correct; the switch should be a double pole and rated for at least 20amp since the OEM could be wired for 240V. You should be able to remove the switch and check the rating on the backside to be sure. As for wiring to a magnetic starter (if I understand you correctly) this Grizzly starter is $35 and is standard equipment in the 1023RL table saw. I have a 1023RL and I also just installed one in a Unisaw, along with the 1023's start/stop switch. If you use this starter, download the 1023RL manual. It has a detailed and clear wiring diagram of the start/stop switch and starter combination.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm already going to need to ask the wife for forgiveness for spending $300 + shipping on the motor, so I'm trying not to spend more money if my current switch will work okay.
