Nearly identical mini hollow forms.
Turned from green olive wood. I cut off 2 sections from a small branch and went to it, so these are endgrain with the pith in.
They are 2 1/4" x 2 1/2" finished with antique oil. The openings are about 5/8" or so and the lips are just a hair different on each. The one on the right was turned yesterday and darkened up so I expect the one on the left to darken up the same.

Nice job Kathy. Great grain and it complements the form. I wish I could turn two that even resembled each other.

Beautiful pieces in every respect. Bet it was fun to turn, also. Any time I've used olive, and that's always been on pens, it has been a joy to turn.

Thanks guys!
Can't go wrong with olive, pretty wood and cuts like a dream, just have to avoid the cracks.

Joe, yes they were turned green to finish.

Kathy, I've never turned olive so I don't know anything about it's properties. However I'd think you'd have a lot of cracking problems especially living in a dry climate like Arizona. So how do you you deal with this?

Joe, to prevent cracking I bag the pieces in ziplock bags and just leave them cracked open a bit. That lets them dry slowly. Just have to watch for mold, but I've only had that show up on a couple of pieces and caught early, it wipes right off. Obviously this wouldn't work in a more humid environment, but it works for me. Paper bags just don't give enough protection here (especially if stored in the shop).
