Was only there once. My hosts took me to an area they called Old Town for some great Mexican food. Have a great time and enjoy that weather!

I can't attest to Seafood, but there are at least 2 very good Mexican restaurants in Old Town San Diego...one is at the end of the square called Rancho Napal?; the other is a few blocks up on the ocean side of the street, a lowish lying, block long, white building...can't recall the name...though they do have a large selection of Tequila.

A few minutes north in Carlsbad is "Tropical Exotic hardwoods":

but don't go their unless you want to see the most extraordinary slabs of cocobolo you're every likey to see.

BTW the San Diego Zoo is World class and if you can squeeze a good portion of a day shouldn't be missed IMO.

A second vote for Old Town. Balboa park is also nice. There is a shop in the park run by a group of woodturners and carvers. There is some pretty nice stuff for sale there. I bet one of the museums in Balboa park will have some furniture related exhibit.

...and Mark Singer's lovely Laguna Beach shop is only an hour and a half or so north....
