Don't know why, but I've never done a box. Wanted to make something for my oldest daughter's 20th birthday and a small jewelry box seemed logical. Had no idea how to approach it, so it was strictly trial and error and my first error was not having parallel sides. That just made it more difficult. Not sure what kind of wood (rainbow poplar?) but the knob on top is African blackwood. It's 5 1/4" wide X 3 1/4" high and finished with Danish oil and satin WOP. (The rings around it are to hide a mistake.) The photo in the lid was taken less than 24 hrs. after she was born and just as we were getting ready to be discharged from the hospital. That was one of the happiest days of my life and it's only gotten better. This became the most rewarding turning I've done because it made me look back and realize just how fortunate I've been. Life is good!

Very nice, and I like that you made it with a more complex form that straight sides.

Great looking box/lidded bowl Bill. Since its the thought that counts more than anything else, this one may always be her favorite as well.
