Just learning the ropes with engraving acrylic.

Is $3.85/sf a good price for 1/4 clear cast acrylic? The price being quoted me is $113.00 for a 4'x8' sheet, plus $10.00 to cut the sheet into 12" x 24" pieces. Supplier is 20 minutes away, so I'll pick up the acrylic myself.

Thanks for your help.

Delvies charges $16 for a 12x24. So you're getting 16 12x24 pieces for $123 or about $7.70 per piece. I'd say it's a very good price.

$114 here, so I'd say you're right on target.

Just make sure it really is cast, not extruded......There is a big price diffence between the two.

I'd also verify the manufacturer, there is some made in Indonesia that has plain brown paper that's cheaper but low quality, inconsistent thickness and edges do not come out nice and glossy. I pay about $200 for Acrylite or Lucite, though they cut it free. I guess everything's higher on the west coast.

Thanks everyone for your responses.

The company that gave me the quote was Calsak Plastics, and the acrylic was Acrycast which as I understand it is their own brand of acrylic. Anyone have any opinions on the company or the product?

Thanks.

Seems a VERY good price , FOB ex China price for us for 1/4" grade A premium cast is round $33 per m2 (10.74 sq ft) or $3.10 per sq ft. This is the wholesale imported price with a minimum order qty of 5 tons....!!!! If I could get my 1/4" acrylic locally (In South Africa) at $3.45 a sq ft , I would NEVER import and have to tie up capital carrying stock...
Oddly enough the price of extruded EX China is more than cast....
You can test what it is by burning a small piece , cast burns with a crackly flame and doesn't drip burning molten balls , extruded burns with a silent flame and drips flaming molten balls.

Calsak is where I got the poor quality Indonesian acrylic, though I don't know whether it was Acrycast or not.

I get all of mine from calsaks, been happy with them. easy to deal with, shows up within a couple days. Edges look great when lasered. Thickness may vary but not enough to be an issue for me. Also i havent found better prices. The only draw back for me is having to buy a whole sheet at a time BUT oh well. plenty of inventory. I recomend them.
