Here we are at work on 3.14159 (Local time 1:59PM) celebrating Pi day.
It's a tough job, however someone has to take one for the team..............Rod.

So, why isn't it spelled Pie? I never heard the term until I saw a couple Pi day signs at the middle school.
What's it all about?

"Pi" comes from the Greek alphabet--you've seen the symbol before, but I can't take the time to figure out if SMC's fonts will reproduce it--which is the ratio of a circle's diameter to its circumference and an irrational number. The symbol looks like two short vertical lines with a wavy top. "Pi day" comes from the fact that today is 3/14, which is the beginning of the number pi--3.1415926535...

pi, 3.14159.......................Etc.
3/14 is the date. 1:59 PM gets us to 5 decimal places..................Just a silly play on a mathematical constant for some enterainment.............Regards, Rod.

-which is the ratio of a circle's diameter to its circumference and an irrational number.
Better than irrational -- it's transcendental, and was one of the first shown to be so.
Cheers,

You should have been up at 1:59 AM to celebrate, Pi day requires the 24 hour clock. Oh yeah, and I mean Greenwich time
