I thought about posting this as my weekend project but that is so far from the truth that, instead of being funny, it just depresses me.

I wonder how much time he has in one.

Now we know where they keep all the money....

They both are just incredible, the time it takes just to engineer the mechanical has to be months and then to build it .... just unreal.

I read that at his peak he employed 130 craftsmen in his 'shop'.
It's hard to imagine how many thousands of man hours are in his larger pieces.
All done with 18th century hand tools.
Then to be transported by horse draw carriage to the king/price/duke that commissioned the piece and having all those elaborate mechanisms work.

I don't think it was the intent of David Roentgen that his secrets would be revealed to the world.

Amazing. Going up to The Met this afternoon to see this thing.

Well that makes the wooton, moore and the rest look like childs play. wow!

I wonder if the pictures on the desk are inlay or painted?

He was known for the quality of his marquetry as well as the intricacy his mechanisms.
These are 'priceless' pieces that are found in museums, held by the remnants of European royalty, or in private collections of very wealthy collectors. They represent the finest examples of 18th century furniture making. They are not painted.

Guess I know what I'll be making Sunday after the hockey game, I've got a couple hours to kill...
