Hi fellow creekers,

Quick question. I have a early 1980 Unisaw (Rockwell 34-457) with 3hp. I'm planning to order a new arbor from Sawcenters with bearings pre-installed. I was wondering which bearing type I have, and since I'm currently at work, I can't look.

The new bearing style started around what year?

Thanks

If you are talking about the 6203s or the extended race bearings, I am pretty usre the 6203s started in the 70's. I had a 1970 with the 6203s. I doubt the new Delta has a clue. You can got to OWWM and look at the manuals and parts diagrams. That would tell you for sure.

They are 6203.6203-2RS and can be had at Fastenal for less than two bucks each.

I think Fastenal sells FAG- good stuff. You don't want chinese bearings. Euro or Japanese. The difference between the best and worse 6203 is only about $10 so get the good stuff skf, Nachi, fag. Dave

You don't want chinese bearings. DaveWHY? The Chinese make good bearings, with the quality being determined by the vendor's specs. I needed a 6204 for a router. Fastenal's Chinese made bearing fits the speed rating requirements, while some "quality" bearings don't. Almost every new piece of equipment has Chinese bearings in it. If they were so bad, then either a manufacturer wouldn't use them, or not offer any warranty. It's a new world we live in.

Probably an overgeneralization. China is capable of quality if you are willing to pay for it. I've never talked to a bearing guy who wanted them in a high end machine. They are generally in machines due to cost, not quality. That will likely change. Dave

If you research it the major bearing producers are building or already have plants in China also. The price won't be less but their cost will be. It really doesn't make much difference where the plant is located anymore.
