Epilog Legend 24TT LCD Screen is garbled

I have an Epilog Legend with a garbled LCD screen. Epilog wants about a grand to replace the entire panel.:( Has anyone had any luck with replacing only the LCD screen? I see lots available out there but I have no idea if anything would be close to the same. I wondered if any of the LCD GURUs out there would have any suggestions.

No. 1 is to check that the ribbon cable to the LCD is making good contact both ends. (Mine fell off!).

It should be possible to buy a replacement LCD panel if it is needed, but it may tale a bit of research to find the right one.
First, it needs the right connector (unless you are happy soldering) and second you need one with the right controller chip.
*Most* panels use the one type of controller chip, but there are some odd ones and also some (very cheap) ones that don't have a main controller chip at all.
Having found one with the right connector and controller, you still need to check out the wiring - the main signals are normally fine, but the backlight and contrast connections do wander about.

(In a previous life I used this type of panel a lot. When supplies dried up from one manufacturer it was always a nightmare getting an exact replacement from somewhere else. The panels available to buy in small quantities [under 10,000/yr] are left-overs from large runs and inevitably each run and each manufacturer had tweaked the design a little bit for their main customer, so that the supposedly "generic" part was actually a little bit unique).

I had the same problem with my TT.. Replacing the display may not solve the problem if the garbled screen is caused by a problem on the board itself.. |I got fedup trying to find one and just shelled out the $650 for a new panel... Mind had horizontal lines going through it, blanking out parts of the text. I lived with it until there was enough text sections missing that it was impossible to read the position/time/power info along the bottom. My original one lasted for about 7 years.

You are going to spend 8 hours or so researching this and risking buying parts that don't work. Epilog knows the price to pain point and priced accordingly. They are also carrying inventory and making the plastic pieces and PCB and the guarantee. You are in fact buying the full faceplate. Those buttons go bad too. No way around this easily. Cost of business. I bought one, and I did waste a lot of time and brain power trying to fix and I have access to the resources. I had to do it and I did.

My display has now gone.

The LCD panel seems to be totally obsolete : even the specialist part finders did not come back with anything, so buying from Epilog is probably the only way now.

When I was in the electronics business, similar LCD panels cost around £30 each : VERY painful to have to pay Epilog £1,000!
