A friend of mine is selling his used (6 years old) G1023SLX 10" tablesaw. He is the original owner and its in pretty good shape. New they go for $1,395. He wants me to make him an offer. Any thoughts on what I should offer?

Thanks

Rule of thumb 50%...so $700 ish depending on what if any accessories he is including.

Rule of thumb is 50% of new and adjust up or down depending on condition. If your friend's saw is in good shape, I might go $800-$900. The problem with buying from friends is you feel obligated to go a little higher. Something I've done with friends in the past is make the offer that I'm willing to pay, tell them it's possible they would get more on the open market, but if they can't, my offer is still stood. Of course, if you really want it, that might not be the way to go.

One thing you don't want to do is lose a friend. Do you get the idea I don't like buying from friends? If so, you'd be right.

~ $650-$750 would be about right IMHO, depending on condition and extras....it's got the older style splitter vs a riving knife.

Tell him "Because we're such good friends, I was hoping you would take $650.00. Then when he gives you crap, say you can go $700.00 since he's your bud. LOL

Yeah, hard to go by the current 1023R price. Just looked in the shop, thought I had an old Griz catalog that showed that model, but my stash only goes back to 2010. Maybe someone else has an '08 or '09 that can get a price on what it went for back then. Jim.
