I thought I'd try some concave sides. The wide base is not by intention, but because I turned it on a chuck in a recess. Next time I'll try something more slender.

Looks good. Don't go too slender on the base else it will not be stable and it easily gets blown/knocked over.

Nice work! I love the flow of the grain lines and the color is really beautiful as well.

Brian, that's a good looking form for sure. The base fits the type of form well. Do you know the species of Eucalyptus that wood or if you saw the tree before it was cut, what did the leaves look like? ......... Jerry (in Tucson)

Jerry, I am pretty sure that it is Red Gum, or Red River Gum Eucalyptus. Long slender leaves. Eucalyptus Camaldensius. But it also looks a lot like Blue Gum Eucalyptus - E. Globulus. Blue gum is the most common from the San Diego plantations that were started here around 1870, but both varieties are prolific.

Nice wood Brian and a pretty good shape for a vase, you could try for a slightly narrower body just above the base, that will often give it a lighter look.

Very nice use of a beautiful piece of wood. I would agree with Leo's comment on shape.
