I wanted to do the square bench dogs in my new bench so I made this jig. We have stacks of scrap plexiglass so it was kind of cool to be able to see through the jig. It allows the 2 degree angle and the step in the hole. The board to the side drops into the previous dog to align the next cut. Makes them a piece of cake to make.

That's a sweet jig, Bill. I would like to have something similar. It might be an illusion but if not, you have some fat dogs.

Pardon my ignorance, but you are making the dog holes before gluing up the top?

Yes I cut them before I glue the pieces together. You want to apply the glue to the one with the dog holes, otherwise you will have glue on the wall inside the hole on one side.

The dogs are what was called for in the Benchcrafted plans, I'll have to go back & look at it again for the measurements. I plan on making all the dogs with Maple and Bubinga with a cork face. Should be gentle on my projects. (and I have a bunch of cork flooring) 8-)
