Claro Walnut Box

I turned this for my neice, after she saw the last one I turned she asked me to make her one. Claro Walnut with African Blackwood pull, aqua-marine stones in the pull and under the lid, this is my neices birth stone. About "4 x "3 1/2. 8 coats of WOP, beall buffed useing REN wax on the last wheel. Credit to Mike Stafford for the design original.

Beautiful lid and bowl. Walnut is hard for me get a good finish so maybe I shouldn't give advise. But it looks like you buffed with the white diamond buff, on dark wood I skip the white diamond.

No I skipped the white diamond I am aware of the effect on walnut...not sure if its wax or what it is but not white diamond.

That is a very "sassy" looking box! It has some serious attitude. The finish is the only thing that keeps this from getting a "10". I never attempt a glossy finish on walnut without doing a dark pore fill first. It just never works quite as well as I envision. I would suggest knocking the gloss back with some steel wool and paste wax to create a matte or "satin" finish. This should also knock out the white wax build up in the pores. Again, this is an excellent box!
