View Full Version : Does Pecan Make Good Pen Blanks?

I recently completed a bunch of flat work with 4/4 Pecan/Hickory and ended up with quite a few drops. Are these worth processing into pen blanks? There's no spalting or unusual figure. I've never turned this type of wood so I was wondering if it would be worth the effort.
I'm not looking to sell. These would be for my personal use unless I end up with way too many.
Thanks,
Joe

I think it does... give it a bit of crossgrain angle and you shoudl still see some nice looking wood.

Makes for great pen blanks.

It does, but it can be boring. Long grain wood, it finishes well.

Unless it has some variegated coloration I would consider it only for firewood.

Thanks, guys! I'll have to sort out what goes on the lathe and what goes in the smoker.
