Hi good am/pm to everyone. I get a lot of requests for "deep" engraving here. A couple of pics are attached of the type a lot of people want. I did a google search but didn't find the answer. Thank you

There are quite a few machines out there, you are very limited with what you can do for one ups. Custom dies are expensive!!

Search under metal letter stamping machines, you find quite a few.

Thanks, the reason I asked is I'm in the Philippines and a couple of places are doing the custom metal stamped stainless dog tags for about $2.50 each in US dollars. Since it's the Philippines, it's kind of unusual that someone is doing custom stamped tags for such a cheap price. (if the machines are expensive)

I know a guy who sets up at a flee market near me who makes tags like that, his machines looks like an industrial strength, oversize label maker he selects the letter, pulls a lever which drives the letter forward and when he releases the lever the machine steps forward one space. I am sure when it was new 40 years ago it was an expensive machine.

You could do similar work with an arbor press, a few jigs and a set of letters. Going that route you could get everything brand new for under $150. Not the fastest way to produce tags but when you don't have a loan on equipment it may not matter.

The old machines from World War II are still around and many still work, sold as memorabilia they only fetch a few huindred dollars.

Search ebay for "dog tag embosser" and you'll find lots of them.

Hi, yes I have one of those simple embossing machines ($700) from Ebay. ;) But they don't do the DEEP embossing some people want. Was just curious if there was a not super expensive route to go. Thanks for info guys

What are the folks in your area using to do the $2.50 ones?

It was in the Philippines. They probably had 8 year old kids doing it for 10 cents an hour.. They have a big problem with child labor. Kids burning up circuit boards, and making stuff for the united states. IF it says made in the Philippines it probably was cheap to manufacture.

Not sure about the machine though.. Hmm
