This is a old piece i had sitting around for at least 1 1/2 years. It got lost in the shop :o Well I found it yesterday and decided to finish it. The first thing that happened was the tenon broke. O well i thought i'd just loose it again, no big deal. Well Keith Burns just happened to show a piece he did that the tenon also broke on yesterday. Ok seeing as Keith can do it ,i'm gonna at least try.Spalted crotch white oak 7x 4, 1/4 inch thick, and finished with 2 coats teak oil,wax and buff.

like your oak Steve, is the spalt only on the sapwood? like your high shoulders, difficult to hollow but well worth the effort

Thanks Charlie. Yes the spalt covers up all the sap wood.

I usually hate turning oak, but when it's that purdy, then it's well worth it! Beautiful bowl!

That is gorgeous in every respect! I love these "low profile" forms. Outta the park!

Steve it sure looks great, just curious did you glue the tenon back on? Bet that was fun getting the shavings out.

Beautiful piece Steve! Greal looking form and I like the contrast between the spalted sapwood and the heartwood, almost looks like 2 different woods glued up together.

Great form and a wonderful piece of oak. I've never seen spalting in oak. Your low form is a winner and you won't have to worry about it getting easily knocked over.

Beautiful form, well done and a worthy save. What adhesive did you use to replace the tenon. I ask because in 3 years turning, I only lost 1 due to tenon breackage, and in January this year, I had 3 tenons break.... ........ Jerry (in Tucson)

Steve, your piece was done facegrain, with the sapwood on the bottom, may be why you lost your tendon

this piece done endgrain, i believe this is pin oak
