Does anyone know much about Weber bandsaws? There is one not far from here, but it's one brand lacking much information here. Thanks.

Years ago, Laguna and I think Bridgewood sourced their bandsaws from Meber. What size the one you're looking at? Might be able to cross reference with the aforementioned retailer's older models.

To my knowledge- which isn't great- ACM made both Laguna and Bridgewood saw. Meber is another Italian saw maker that was similar. Not quite as highly thought of but very close. The saw should be priced a little less than an ACM. They were not built quite as heavy as the 40 (440,540,640) series. Similar to the 400,500,600 series of ACM. If resawing i'd get a larger saw to compensate for that. Dave

Dave, the series I am looking at is the 510 series. It's advertised quite a bit less money than many I have been seeing, but then again it might have a 3-phase motor.

You might find some humor in the fact that I went to look at a 900 series ACM locally. For some reason common sense eluded me as to the size of that unit with 36" wheels. Not sure of the total height or weight but it seemed a bit tall for the 8 1/2 foot tall garage. It was a brute. Quite the deal if I owned a barn; had a mere 9 or 10 horse three-phase motor powering it.

For a number of years, Meber made the saws sold under the Laguna label. My Laguna 16 has a Meber info plate on it. Laguna has since worked deals with several other makers and I do not think any of their current line are Meber.

Steve, what was the time frame? After Sagitario-sp?. Did they have the little diagonal cut on the top of the frame like most I've seen? Dave

High quality saws, just never got over big here in the States. We sold one of theirs experimentally as the "S16" for several years. "Meber S400", I think it was, possibly the same saw which Laguna was dealing for a period.

I have a Laguna 16 SEC which is a rebranded Meber S400. It has the larger 2.3 kW motor that Laguna upgraded with Carter Guides. Weighs about 150 kg. Fit and finish are okay but it is not what I would call a heavyweight saw.

Yes, both Laguna, then when they dropped this particular unit, MiniMax, sold a Meber 16". MiniMax brought their version, called the S-16 that Eric talked about above, to the DFW Woodworking show one year for me to look at. Decent saw, but not in the same class as the MM series. They later dropped it and produced in house the E-16 that I did buy. Still not the MM series quality, but I think it is better that the Meber unit, not that Meber is bad. IIRC the E-16 had more horsepower. So it depends on the price. Look it over, run it, take some wood to cut on it, and make a personal judgement on if it is right for you. Jim.

I'm not home, so I can't check for the little cutout just now...Mine is an LT16SEC like Ed mentioned, purchased about 1999. They had been selling the same one for at least 5 years before that. Laguna stopped stocking most parts for the Mebers sometime early in the 2000's. I contacted Meber directly, and although the saw is still made and sold in Italy, there is nobody importing them to the US any more.

Steve, I think I remember those. My LT18 was 1999 and one of the first ACM machines offered. The Meber were a little smaller size machines. Dave

I have one in my shop. SC500 or I think? Metric, almost 20", reasonably well made, 3HP, guide post is rock solid, electronics are good, soft start, very effective foot break, euro guides. It has a 12 3/8" resaw capacity, takes up to 1 1/4" blades. The table bevel feature is not the best I've seen, but it works. I've used a MM20, its not a MM, but its not far off. The frame on mine is a very rigid triple tube type thing, large cast table, micro switches on the doors, good blade guards. Its about all you would expect from a good Italian saw. Not well known, but well made. They have an active web address, parts may still be available. Can't imagine what would ever break that is specialized though?

Mine looks like this.

Meber was with Laguna tools before but apparently they're now with ACM .

Here is an example of what you might find out there labeled Meber, this used one is a Laguna, there is usually a meber tag on the frame somewhere. This one is pretty stout. They make a whole range of things from basic hobby stuff to serious industrial machinery.

Hello,

since two years I own a used Meber SR 600, built in 1991.

Positive is: stiffness, very quiet running, no vibrating, electric break and soft start, enough power for most use, safety features, overall build quality is fine.
Negativ is: the guides, cheap euro style ball bearing guides, they suck, perhaps I will replace them one day with somnething from HEMA or PANHANS..we will see
