So, I finally got around to creating a project for my daughters birthday party. We're making all the kids these treasure chests filled with goodies. I thought you'd all like to see the creation that we made for this party.

The hinges were inspired from a set of wooden glasses that I found on instructables dot com here -> www dot instructables dot com/id/Laser-cut-foldable-wooden-glasses/

I hope you all enjoy this.

Thanks all for the inspiration and invaluable information that is provided on this forum.

I'd say I was very impressed, but that doesn't seem to be enough.

Neat project, Tom! Can you give us an idea of the size/scale?

How did you manage to line up the cuts on the living hinge on the top with the curve on the sides so it all snapped together?

Thanks for all the compliments.

Sure, it's 6.5" wide by 5.25" tall by 4.5" deep

I used the BoxIt and FlexIt macros. when you have both installed it allows you to create the box with the living hinge designed in for the curves. It's a great piece of software for that.

What a great project to do for your daughter! Can you share a few more details? Looking at the floor tiles, I'm guessing the chest is around 6" long?

Do you plan to stain the chests or paint them? While it is cute as it is, I can also picture the chest stained dark and the hinges & clasp painted metallic gold.

For the party, they will be given as is, no finish. We will be engraving each child's name on them and of course filled with pirate booty :) I've also had a request for a 4" version that I am currently working on.

Fine craftsmanship. You should seriously consider entering your work in an art show. Just make sure it is one that recognizes woodworking as an art form.
