I had never made anything from Silk Oak before. I love the grain in this wood. Thank you Kathy for introducing me to this wonderful wood.
This is a full sized communion chalice - 10" x 3-1/4". If it was for display I would have turned a smaller stem, but I want it to me sturdy for years of use. It fits well in the hand.
Currently just a coat of oil. Later I'll use WOP so the grape juice doesn't soak into the wood.
Close-ups are to show the fascinating grain. On the inside rim of the first photo, there is a grain pattern that looks like stitches.
