Mother-in-law would like me to build these shelves for her, or something similar:

254252

Besides building the frame as a box and mounting it to wall over some type of wood bracket, is there mounting hardware available for these types of shelves?

If you built something similar and have any tips, much appreciated!

I would just go with keyholes. I would use a template to ensure proper placement.

There are these things -- http://www.woodcraft.com/product/2001089/3586/fasteners-slimline.aspx .

I've mounted floating shelves with keyholes. If you're not familiar with what we're talking about, you an get a special bit to cut a slot that will slip over a screw head and then slide to lock in place.

I do like Jamie's solution. But, I use keyholes for this type of application... Sadly, layout on the router table takes longer than cutting them...

If you want to keep the look thin then I would think something like this would be much better:

If you are not opposed to making a torsion box type of construction then you could mount a cleat to the wall and then screw your box to the cleat. The woodcraft product that Jamie showed above seems a bit flimsy but maybe that is because i seem to overdesign things that i build for the house.

Do a Google search on "floating shelves". Then pick the system that works for you.

Thank you guys! As far as key holes go, I imagine you would want to get these in studs...? ....is there hardware or just simply cutting key holes? Seems if just in wood might be difficult to keep tight to wall if removed for any reason.

Thanks again!

From the picture, it apears that the shelf is at least 36" long which would cover three studs if on 16" centers, and the three vertical sections of the shelf would give you stability. You could use metal keyhole fittings on each stud with long screws into both the studs and the shelf.
