For a filter to scrub the smoke out of the laser exhaust is the activated carbon really necessary? The reason I ask is, I built a carbon filter but didn't install the hepa filter and it kind of worked. I installed the hepa filter and am venting the air inside, and now the smell of the laser is less noticeable then when I was venting the non filtered air outside.

So that brings me to my question. Does the activated charcoal do anything? Or would it be just as effective to skip it and only use a hepa filter? I would test it but, since what I have now is working and I would have to remove all the carbon and make a mess to test it, I figured I would ask here.

You will clog the HEPA filter in a heartbeat...
