Perhaps someone will get some use from this picture. I made a new stand for my small lathe when I found myself with some surplus 8/4 oak. It is less portable but more stable than the one it replaced. The center height is 47.5" with the blocks on and 44.5" with them removed, hopefully that will be low enough for visiting friends and relatives. The center trestle is slanted with pvc tubes mounted to hold tools.

Looks sturdy and very practical. Congratulations.

Looks heavy duty for sure. Does it knock down? It looks like there is a wedge holding the center trestle. The additional wood spacers to elevate the lathe above the stand top sure help to clean out wood chips and allow the motor to run cooler. The blocks are a good idea for making it easier to use by others, like grandchildren. I just bought a little Nova Comet II 12x16 lathe and am working out what to do for a stand, but want something that can be portable, but might use your PVC tube idea.
