Hi.
You can clean this tape using Multi-coater fluid filter and lens cleaner, which supplies Epilog cleaning lenses and mirrors. Which is better?

I've only used clean water applied with a cotton swab.

According to Epilogs website, you should use distilled water and a cotton swab. Here is a link to a video on the Epilog website - http://www.epiloglaser.com/tl_cleaning_linear_encoder.htm

Always be careful of the chemicals you put on that strip... many will flat out melt it.
