This a 13"x5" mesquite bowl from the stump i cut at ground level. I could hardly lift it to get it on the lathe. Finished with watco oil. Byron

how many GALLONS of watco did you through before it quit absorbing the oil???
I made a nested bowl set two weeks ago and it still hasnt quit sucking up the b.l.o. i apply to it everyday.
and by the way great looking bowl. love this stuff . it is so stable no matter how wet it is.

Allen,
I soaked it pretty well, It is still wet and has not moved at all. Mesquite can be turned and finished green and never move,
very stable. I have about 20 natural edge bowls made from this tree. I posted some in an eaelier post. Byron

Does the yellow stay yellow, or fade to something else over time?

Brian,
Yes pretty much. I have some bowls 2 or 3 yrs old and the yellow is still yellow. It also depends on the
finnish applied. Bod'arc on the other hand the yellow starts turning brown quite quickly.

If this bothers you, in the future, you can add some poly to the BLO (or any oil based varnish for that matter). It will seal the wood better and get you to an even sheen quicker.
