Tired of being only able to turn small things like pens etc. I upgraded my delta midi to a larger lathe. Looking at the new one it probably came from the same factory as the Laguna 18-47, they are almost identical down to the accessories that come with it. 2hp, 3 ph motor and 18 in. swing. With any luck I might be able to make something larger than a pen on it.

With funerals and a few other happenings the last couple months I have barely had time to set it up let alone use it. First project was a gavel for the wife. A group she belongs to had one but it developed legs so I was elected to replace it. All from walnut.

Rick,
I have the UK equivalent got it early December - a very nice lathe for the price. It took apiece of willow 42in long by 9in dia turned off-centre no problems at all.
I don’t have the basket – I let my chips hit the floor
If you have not had variable speed before – I had stepped –then you will have noticed a big difference and so quiet compared to what I had. I use a lot more different speeds than I use to and the finish shows it.
Enjoy.

Brian.. 42" x 9" ... that is one mighty big pen. I hope it wasn't a ball point.

Yes. So far I'm happy with it much nicer than the Delta midi I had.

Congratulations, Rick! That looked like a solid lathe when I was looking at them in the showroom.

Congrats on the new lathe and fine job on the gavel. Looking forward to seeing what else you make on the bigger lathe.
