Puma Air Compressor PK5020VP

Hope to be picking one up in the morning. Kind of happy. I want to replace a 4gal Dewalt I have never much liked. I have the big brother 60gal Puma and I like it.

That darn Dewalt really collects a lot of water/moisture and sometimes that motor will, what I call hydro lock?? Its like pump cant fill it and the motor will cause a trip and I have to let some air out and reset and it fills fine. Not sure what the issues are. Any ideas?

Anyway I am glad to be getting this 20gal for its place.

Probably a bad or sticky unloaded valve.

Yep! What Matt said. Unloader (pressure relief valve) is not workin'.
Does the PUMA offer 120/240 volt use?

I'll be interested in seeing how this works for you since it is what I have been looking at. The 240V and 2 cyl look like a better unit than the 120V single cyl of others, even at higher price. That is a big compressor to run on 120V and not have breaker trip unless a firmly dedicated circuit and any extension cord would definitely need to be #12.

I ran it, emptied it, and ran it about 3 times today on a 14ga 25' long extension cord and it worked perfect every time. Not one trip on 120V.

I boughta nice regulator and water seperatorfilter last year on one of the forums and decided I am going to install it on this one. Also picked up a flexzilla retractable 3/8" hose setup for it today too so I think that will get mounted to the handle. I will put in a manifold so I can also use a urethane flex hose I have that is handy for blowing away sawdust.

I have the 60 gallon big brother like it also. Twin cylinder vertical tank 5hp if I remember correctly. I don't use it hard but have had it for 5 years and have been pleased with it.

I got this 20gal compressor up and running. Added a bunch of Wilkerson 18 Compact series parts to it. I will show pictures of it tomorrow. I am running it off 120V on a 20 amp circuit and it runs perfectly. I believe it is EXACTLY the same as the Ingersol Rand Garage Mate compressor only blue in color (mine also has different wheels) and a bit cheaper new. Also Northern Tool has a version called the NorthStar Belt drive Single stage 20gallon. Pay attention to the stock junk regulator in the stock pictures.

Cant wait to show you the mount I made for the Wilkerson parts out of Unistrut!

I bolted on a frame of 1 5/8" unistrut to the Puma compressor. It was left over from cnc upgrades.

I installed a relief valve, a regulator and water separator w/5 micron filter and auto drain, a .03 micron coalescing filter, a manifold to a top connector and a line to a retractable flexzilla 3/8 setup, then an oil lubricator and a plug there. The regulator and lubricator both have mounts that tie into the unistrut using 1/4" spring nuts. The flexzilla retractable spool also mounts to the unistrut using spring nuts. I flipped the handle to make the reel have more range of motion but it easily can be flipped up into the normal spot. The compressor easily has enough stability it allow me to pull out the hose. I am very happy with the setup.
