This is my entry for the AAW "currents" show.

I interpreted this theme as literally as possible, reflecting the blue sea and sandy beaches with my "wave" design.

The bowl is 5 x 10 Bleached Fiddleback Maple and colored with Golden Brand translucent airbrush paints. The blue over the fiddleback gives some wonderful ripples adding to the ocean effect. For the blue, I thinned different shades of the paint and applied them with a rag. I chose the paint over dye, as I have found that it is more lightfast then the blue and green tones of dye.

I can easily see how the theme is incorporated into the bowl. Looks good.

Not generally a fan of bleaching figured woods, but since the blue brings out the figure and thus increases the contrast it works well. Your wave bowls are always fun to look at.

I love your work. It's like the Blues: every piece has the same structure, but it's the embellishments that make it stand out.

I am a big fan of this piece. Well done. I usually choose dye over my airbrush paints. I need to re-evaluate that and play with the colors more. Thanks.

What and where will this very talented turner be doing in the twin cities. Iam in driving distance and have always been fascinated with the waves. Jared

Make every effort to get to the Demo and Hands on in the Twin Cities. Went to one of John's demo's last year and had a great time. Mine don't look like the one's John makes yet but some folks that looked at them were impressed and of course they all ask "how did you do that"??
