Hi All,
It's my first post. I'm just getting started in woodworking. I've decided to go the all hand wool route. I'm currently in the process of cleaning up the garage and building a workbench. I've already read a bunch of useful threads on here.

Welcome John!

Glad you're finding this place useful. It's been one of my main resources as I've developed as a woodworker.

Have fun!

John,
Welcome. SMC is a great resource for woodworkers. Glad you're now a part of it.

Welcome John. What part of the country do you call home?

Welcome to the creek!

What kind of workbench are you building?

Welcome to the Creek John. Your profile doesn't list your location. You may live close to another member who would be happy to get together sometimes to help you with questions or even lifting your bench top on to the base when needed.

Hey! Its Jim's job to ask that question....

Well, sometimes my computer isn't turned on later in the day, so someone has to step up and take shoulder the hard things. :)

Welcome John! I’m about in the same boat you are (acquisition and planning phase). I’d love to see some pictures of your workbench build. I’ve got mine mostly designed (Nicholson Style, akin to Bob Rozaieski’s) but I’d love to see how you are coming along.

I was unaware of this particular division of labor... my apologies :)

No, it is not my job. It is just something that is my habit when someone is new to our neck of the wood(s).

In fact, the more welcomers the merrier.

No worries Jim. I was just kidding around.

As was I, of course. And Jim, its a wonderful habit you have that I appreciate and has definitely rubbed off on a number off us.

I'm thinking of an English style bench. I've been reading Schwarz book on benchs.

I'm in the East Bay of CA.

I'm in the East Bay of CA.

My home used to be in San Pablo. Before retiring, one of my employers was BART.

Small world, of course, the East Bay Area is a pretty large area.

So I'm not the only one to think that.

One of the first things I did when I signed up was to add my location since I kept seeing Jim's, "Where you from?" posts.
