A new sub-forum has been created specifically for announcements. John thread can be found in that new sub-forum, located at the top of the page.

So I'm confused cuz the announcement of the sub forum says it was for announcing get together s and, specifically, discussion of visits were supposed to stay in this forum.

From the main Turners Forum page at the top you will see the Turners Announcement Forum. Click on the new forum and the page will open up with lists of threads.

Greg, the new sub forum is for announcing/arranging get togethers etc for group events. Creeker visits can still be posted in the main Turners forum.

So why was his thread, talking about a creeker visit, moved?

John's thread is about the Ohio Woodturners Guild Symposium in the fall and who else might be going so he might have a chance to meet them.

Greg,

If you go to the Announcements at the top of every forum, there is one dated January 13, 2013. In it Keith stated that all dated announcements such as demonstrations, meetings, symposiums etc. were to be posted on the calendar.

There is good reason for that. The calendar doesn't get archived. Somebody going through the thread archive of a particular forum doesn't have to wade through a bunch of outdated, date specific threads about such material.

If those announcements about symposiums, for example, are left in the regular forum, it could be difficult for us as Moderators to monitor and remove them once the event is over. If they don't get removed, they are in the archive where they really have shouldn't be.

So, John moved his thread to the Moderator's Forum yesterday and we spent the day making suggestions, commenting and in the end Keith came up with the sub-forum idea for the Turner's Forum to be used just for dated announcements and general discussions about that particular event (get together at the annual AAW meeting, for example.....dinner reservations, etc>) as a way to "corral" those threads where they are easily monitored so that once the event is over they can be deleted and kept from the archives and yet are easily available for the turning members. Turners seem to have more of these types of get-togethers than other woodworking modalities.

This new sub-forum was a idea by Keith to meet the needs of the turners and the administrative needs of the site.
