I was at Barnes and Noble (love to browse with a coffee) and found a "Dover Electronic Clip Art" book with a CD (not vector art). It looked great, the back cover said that the art was scanned at 600dpi... I was sold... Got home started looking at the pics and the book was right... they were scanned at 600 dpi, however the pics that were scanned must not have been good quality (much < 600dpi)... When I zoom in on the edges they look pretty ratty... I was hoping to "trace" the art and get a nice vector image... oh well only $16...

Question for those with a vector library... What vector graphic libraries do you recommend and from what source? I would like to get a couple of different vector collections to choose from... need some recommendations!

Thanks,

I got a pretty good clipart library with CorelDraw version 8. They don't include nearly as much anymore but there are many free sites on the internet and I generally look for a specific item rather than a library. A lot of times a request on SMC will turn up what you need.

I'm with Mike here , I have tons of clipart/vector libraries (lots out there) and generally it takes longer to find something that is vaguely appropriate and not ideal than to either draw or trace or search for the exact item.

If you like the Dover stuff.....they have a new website for their books where you can buy and download either just one image or the whole book.......and you can search for just vector files:

Read the copyright/terms carefully. I have a bunch of dover books and have scanned/used images, but I got written permission from them with strict limits on the numbers. Those books are meant for private personal use, and you are in violation of copyright if you sell anything with their images without permission.

Even Pictura, where you pay for images may not allow commercial use, and the line in red below would prevent laser reproduction on other materials.

"Commercial use of these images may be restricted or prohibited if they contain a valid and existing trademark owned by a third party. You agree not to share any images purchased on the Site and agree not to share access to your digital locker. Images purchased on the site may not be shared by groups or organizations. You agree to not upload any images purchased on the Site to a shared network or drive or file sharing site or otherwise disseminate, resell, reproduce or republish such images in any electronic, printed or other design resource. Any such sharing may result in cancellation of your account and termination of access to your digital locker and may subject you to legal liability. "

Have you tried to res them up in Photo Shop first, I find sometimes that will help smooth them out.
Make sure if they are BW to scan them in grey scale to save file size.

Thanks Tom, I'll check them out. I also found "http://all-free-download.com" has a lot of free vector graphics, you just have to navigate through all the links to other sites.
