Here are a few pictures of one of the pieces I am experimenting with.

The slots are random causing the viewers eye to try to search for a pattern.

It's black walnut (6 1/4 x 3/4) wings are about 3/32 thick, black dye and finished with rattle can lacquer.

That is really interesting. I like it a lot!

If you wanted to take the asymmetry up a notch you could put multiple support rings on the back and then remove random ones from each gap. It would certainly add to the eye confusion.

But that would certainly end up with a lot more work since you would have to remore the extra ribs and hand-sand the back.

The other possibility would be to use multi-axis off-center turning to create the support ribs so they aren't centered on the plate. That would be easier, I think.

I keep seeing your pieces and keep telling my self that i'm gonna have to try one of these some day. Then i say no way as there's no way in heck you could get them looking half as good as you do Pete.I love what you are doing.
